Date of your
Wedding: 1 April 2013
The Farthing
Hall
Name of
Bride: Leandri Geldenhuys
Age: 27
Occupation:
Accountant
Name of
Groom: Pieter Geldenhuys
Age: 26
Occupation: Self employed in the aviation industry
How did you
meet:
I
was the first to send Pieter an sms asking why people call him “Spyker” , that
would lead to an early morning coffee and a late evening with lots of Sangria.
As
having Sangria would become one of our favorite things to do, we had to
incorporate it into the wedding
The
proposal:
After
spending 5 and half years together Pieter finally had the courage to pop the
question. He took met to a restaurant called Feast in Parys. The complete
restaurant was empty, and they had a lovely table in a corner with a crackling
fire already burning. We shared a lot of wine and chatted the evening away,
when finally he went on his knees, my heart was beating so fast. After he asked
me, we both shared a few happy tears and started phoning friends and family, to
share the great news! It was a day that will be memorable for many years to
come.
What theme
or atmosphere did you create on your Big Day:
The original
them I chose was classic sparkle with hints of feathers and pearls. I wanted to
give a magical feeling and make my guest feel that they were part of a special
day at a special place
What was
unique about your wedding?
There are 3
things that stood out as being unique, first my self made pom-poms, they looked
lovely and we had a lot off them to hang in the waiting area. The second was
our seating arrangements; we put a lot of keys in the tree and said to our
guests to find their keys to their seats. The last and one of my favorites was
out our first dance. We had some guests shoot hundreds of stars at us. It
looked amazing and felt very dreamy!
Describe
your Table Décor/flowers or Gifts to guests:
I chose flowers
that weren’t the traditional type. I wanted to have heaps of color without a
lot of filling. The tulips stood out from day 1 and this was truly a feature
that received heaps of compliments. Our gift idea came from my husband; he
suggested that because it was Easter weekend we give all our guests Easter
eggs. It was quite a hunt to get 110 eggs, but worth it! It was such a fun
detail on the tables.
Describe
your Wedding Dress:
My wedding
dress was a stunning part of my day. It was a busy dress with a lot of
ruffles. A big dress and very heavy, the
lady that had it in Belle Demoiselle told me that it broke 3 hangers in her
shop. But it was the prettiest dress
and I really could not imagine any other dress that might have been more
perfect for me
Describe
your Wedding Cake:
Our wedding
cake was a chocolate mousse cake with white chocolate detail wrapped around
each tear, finished with a pearl detail . It was truly delicious and the guests
absolutely loved it.
The Best
thing about being a Bride:
The best
thing about being a bride is your husband. When he meets you in the church and
you can just see the admiration and affection in his eyes, it makes all the
hard work worth it! It’s the loveliest feeling knowing that you are the most
special lady for the man you love.
The Best
thing about being a Groom:
When I asked
Pieter about this question he replied with no hesitation that it was standing
in front at the church, and the moment the doors opened and he saw his bride
for the first time. He did not realize that he would feel so much love and
happiness in one moment.
Highlights/Special/Funny
incidents of the day:
My favorite
moment was when the church doors opened, I tried to take in all the pretty
décor and notice the guests, but my eyes went straight to Pieter. He looked
smashing, and had the cutest droopy look on his face. It’s a look that will
always be in my memory.
My feather
girl had the cutest curlers in her since the night before the wedding. The
entire morning she spent with me walking around with her curlers being super
excited to wear her white dress. When my mother in law went to look for her
about 45 minutes before the ceremony, they found her in a big bath tub taking a
swim; needless to say that the curls were soaking wet. My poor mother in law
just took charge and fixed the situation with a bit of help. I never knew about
this until a week later. I had such a good laugh.
What have
you learned from this experience:
I have
learned that when you tackle a big project like a wedding, you can be surprised
of what hidden talents you have. Even if its small thing like making pom-poms
or keeping to a budget. You feel that when it was successful you can out your
mind to anything
Any advice
you would like to give other bridal couples?
Make time in
on the wedding day for you two as a couple, organize a special glass of
champagne that you can enjoy after the couple photos. They day is after all
about you two. Try and enjoy it together.
